As a Chinese person, the Spring Festival is the most important festival in my culture. It celebrates the beginning of spring and the start of a new year. During this time, my family and I gather together to enjoy traditional food and customs.
One of the most important traditions is the reunion dinner on New Year's Eve. We make dumplings, fish, and other delicious dishes to share with each other. We also give red envelopes filled with money to younger family members, which symbolizes good luck and prosperity.
Another tradition is cleaning the house before the New Year to sweep out bad luck and welcome good luck. We also decorate the house with red banners and posters with lucky sayings written on them.
During the Spring Festival, many Chinese people also visit temples to pray for good fortune and health. We also watch traditional lion and dragon dances which are believed to ward off evil spirits.
On the 15th day of the Lunar New Year, the Lantern Festival is held. We light lanterns, eat sweet rice dumplings, and watch fireworks.
The Spring Festival is a time of joy and unity for my family and the Chinese people. It allows us to pay respect to our traditions and heritage while celebrating the coming of a new year.
