Hello, my name is John. I am a student and I live in New York City. I am currently studying at New York University, majoring in Business Administration. In this essay, I would like to introduce myself and my experience with the English language.
I was born in China and moved to the United States when I was 7 years old. At that time, I did not speak any English at all. It was a challenge for me to switch from speaking my native language, Mandarin Chinese, to learning English and trying to communicate effectively with those around me.
However, I was determined to learn the language. I spent a lot of time studying and practicing, and gradually became more comfortable with the language. In 3rd grade, I was placed in a bilingual program, which allowed me to take classes in both Chinese and English.
Throughout middle school and high school, I continued to work hard to improve my English skills. I read books, watched movies, and listened to music in English. I also participated in extracurricular activities such as debate club and theater, where I had to use English extensively.
Now, as a college student in New York, I feel more confident in my ability to communicate in English. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to learn and practice English, and I believe that it has opened up many doors for me in terms of education and career opportunities.
Being bilingual has also given me the opportunity to learn about different cultures and connect with people from all over the world. I have made friends with people from different countries and backgrounds, and I have learned so much from them.
In conclusion, learning English has been a challenging but rewarding experience for me. I have come a long way from the 7-year-old who could not speak or understand a word of English. I believe that my experience has taught me the importance of hard work and persistence, and I will continue to work towards improving myself and my language skills.
